In honor of March Matness, the spotlight was on the Pilates Mats. The Mat invites a return to the foundation of Classical work, where strength, control, and clarity are developed without assistance, revealing the true depth of the Classical method.

The Pilates Mat challenges practitioners to generate movement from within, relying on precision, order, and control rather than external support. Each exercise builds upon the next, sharpening coordination and reinforcing the relationships that carry through the entire system.

When the foundation is established on the Mat, all other work becomes more meaningful. Transitions become clearer, shapes more defined, and the work across all apparatus more integrated, extending beyond the studio into how you move and carry yourself in daily life.

This April, we will spotlight the Pilates Electric Chair, also known as the High Chair. Designed to find full-body stability and balance, the Electric Chair challenges practitioners to generate strength, balance, and control using both body weight and spring resistance. Its high-backed seat, spring-loaded pedal, and supportive handles allow for a wide variety of exercises, from the foundational to the advanced, making it a versatile tool for any level of practitioner.

More than just a piece of equipment, the Electric Chair offers an opportunity to refine posture, deepen core activation, and enhance functional movement throughout the body. Each exercise emphasizes intentionality over momentum, encouraging awareness of alignment, balance, and muscular coordination.

We can’t wait to see how you bring the Electric Chair into your teaching this month. Tag @gratz_pilates to share your sessions—we look forward to featuring your work all month long.
