Song Yi Song

Song Yi Song brings her experience as a Romana’s Pilates instructor, studio founder, and artist to Gratz Pilates. With firsthand knowledge of teaching on Gratz apparatus and selecting equipment for her own studio, she understands the considerations that matter to instructors and studio owners. Her work focuses on connecting Gratz with the Korean Pilates community, helping customers understand the apparatus and make informed decisions for their practice and their studios.

Song Yi became a certified Romana’s Pilates instructor in 2018 and founded Song of Pilates in Bundang, South Korea. Her experience includes managing a medical Classical Pilates center and teaching clients with a range of needs, including prenatal and postnatal clients and people with limited mobility. These experiences shaped her thoughtful approach to teaching, communication, and client care.

She also holds an MBA in Cultural and Arts Management, bringing a business perspective to her experience in studio operations, customer relationships, and marketing. Outside of Pilates, Song Yi is an artist. Her creative practice informs her appreciation for form, materials, and the care involved in making something by hand.

Song Yi approaches her work through the perspectives of an instructor, an apparatus user, and a studio owner. Having chosen Gratz for her own studio, she understands both the personal investment and the practical questions involved in purchasing equipment.

At Gratz, she brings that experience to supporting instructors and studio
owners in Korea. She values listening carefully, offering clear information, and
building lasting relationships. She is particularly interested in creating opportunities for people to experience the apparatus firsthand and understand its connection to the Classical Pilates method.

"My connection to Gratz began as an instructor. The apparatus was part of how I learned, practiced, and taught Pilates, long before I thought about working here. Choosing Gratz for my own studio made that connection even more personal.

Being able to contribute to a company that has been part of my own development is meaningful to me. I understand how much thought goes into opening a studio and choosing the equipment people will work with every day. I hope to bring that understanding to my relationships with instructors and studio owners in Korea, helping them feel informed and supported as they make those decisions.”

"That the details become much more meaningful when you experience them
through movement. As an instructor, I’ve learned to pay attention to how the dimensions, proportions, and spring resistance of an apparatus affect the way a person moves. Those details are part of how I understand and teach the method.

My background as an artist also makes me attentive to materials and construction. I appreciate the care involved in creating an object that needs to be both thoughtfully made and useful every day. That is something I would love more people to experience firsthand with Gratz: how the craftsmanship and the movement come together."

"The Cadillac. I love both practicing and teaching on it because of the possibilities it offers. I can draw connections between the mat work and movements on the Reformer, helping someone recognize how different exercises relate to one another.

I’m especially drawn to its open space. It gives people room to explore movement and build strength, while the springs and bars offer different ways to find support and work with resistance. As a teacher, I enjoy finding the approach that helps a movement make sense for each person. For me, the Cadillac brings together structure and freedom. There is so much to explore within it, and that keeps me curious as both a teacher and a practitioner.
