“The power of Gratz equipment is that it goes beyond being merely a beautiful engineered stand alone machine:
it is capable of connecting and interacting with the body, constantly providing information and feedback, enabling the practitioner to instinctively move better.”
With over thirty years of client focused instruction and teacher training, Noam Gagnon is the owner and creator of, as well as the driving force, behind Beyond Pilates. Noam's many years of experience in the Pilates Method, dance performing, teaching movement and choreography prompted him to found Beyond Pilates in the heart of downtown Vancouver, Canada in 2005. Beyond Pilates recently relocated to a bright freshly renovated studio space at street level just outside the downtown core in the more centrally located and more easily accessed South Granville Fairview neighbourhood. With the new space comes new opportunities and new possibilities.
Though based locally, Noam has been able to establish himself internationally as both a master Pilates instructor and a Franklin Method faculty member. Whether his clients are interested in a better integration of mind and body or rehabilitating after an illness or injury, Noam believes that Classical Pilates and or the Franklin Method can be the keys to meeting their personal fitness goals.
In addition to private and semi-private sessions and group classes, Beyond Pilates also offers Skype sessions, workshops and, in the near future, a newly refreshed intensive teacher training programme.
In addition to being the Director of Beyond Pilates, Noam Gagnon is also an acclaimed dance artist and choreographer who, over the course of his career, has helped lead Canadian contemporary dance to the forefront of the international stage. He is an Associate Dance Artist of Canada’s National Arts Centre.
Noam chose to become a Pilates teacher because he was profoundly affected by his own experience with the Classical Pilates method as a young dancer. He began studying the Pilates Method in 1987, receiving his first teaching certification in 2003 from the highly respected Pilates Center of Boulder Colorado. His own teacher training programme for Pilates instructors followed in 2006. Noam began studying the Franklin Method in 2011, graduating as a Franklin Movement Educator Level 3 in 2015. He is a current Franklin Method faculty member. In 2016 Noam graduated from the Pilates Masters Program at Vintage Pilates in Los Angeles, California where he trained with Pilates elder Jay Grimes. Noam personally chose Classical Pilates because it was ultimately a better fit for his character and personality.
The Pilates Collective is a recent collaboration by owners Noam Gagnon of Beyond Pilates and Erin Murphy of Studio 19 Pilates, a shared space dedicated to Classical Pilates and The Franklin Method, where teachers and practitioners can work and learn together in a safe, healthy, and positive environment. Joseph Pilates believed physical fitness was the prerequisite to happiness and each Pilates Collective instructor is fully committed to helping clients become their strongest, healthiest, and happiest selves through the Classical Pilates method.
As teachers and practitioners of Classical Pilates, we are all learning and growing. Creating a practicing and teaching community and embracing others into our pool of information to share and grow together is crucial to our industry. We can learn and grow faster, getting deeper and deeper into the work, together.
Throughout the course of his Pilates career, as both a student and teacher, Noam has encountered and used Pilates equipment produced by nearly every manufacturer in the market. Based on his own personal experiences, Noam found Gratz to be the ONLY equipment best suited to teaching the classical work as originally intended by Joseph Pilates. Once Noam had felt and realized the difference Gratz equipment made to his own body, he aspired to one day being able to provide his clients with the same ultimate experience, gradually equipping Beyond Pilates with only top of the line Gratz equipment.
The power of Gratz equipment is that it goes beyond being merely a beautifully engineered stand alone machine: it is capable of connecting and interacting with the body, constantly providing information and feedback, enabling the practitioner to instinctively move better. At Beyond Pilates, the difference that Gratz equipment makes is instantly noticeable to both experienced and novice practitioners alike, informing and supporting the body like no other equipment.
