Lori Coleman-Brown is a second-generation Classical Pilates teacher, internationally respected educator, and Director of Education at Atlas Pilates in Seattle. A former professional dancer, Lori earned a BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase and later completed a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Temple University, bringing together decades of movement, rehabilitation, and teaching experience in her work.
Lori first discovered Pilates in the early 1980s after being referred to Joseph Pilates protégée Romana Kryzanowska for a knee injury. What began as rehabilitation quickly became a lifelong dedication to The Pilates Method. By 1986, Lori was teaching Pilates professionally, and in 1999, Romana personally invited her to become a Teacher Trainer.

Throughout her career, Lori has combined the precision of Classical Pilates with a deep understanding of anatomy and individualized movement. She has taught internationally across Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America, and has mentored and trained hundreds of Pilates instructors over several decades.
In 1993, she co-founded The Pilates Studio of Seattle, now Pilates Seattle International, helping establish one of the Pacific Northwest’s first major Classical Pilates teacher training centers.
Today, Lori continues to lead workshops and educational programs worldwide. She is respected for her precision, depth of knowledge, and thoughtful, individualized approach to teaching.
Through her teaching, Lori offers another way into the work — helping people discover how something could be done, not only how it should be done. Using the structure and brilliance of the Contrology system created by Joseph Pilates, she helps students access their own levers, organize themselves more efficiently, and move with greater joy, intelligence, and natural grace.
Lori is known for teaching the method with both authenticity and individuality. One of her greatest goals is helping students and instructors learn to practice and teach Contrology through their own authentic voice.
