Penelope Wyer Barrow is a second-generation Pilates teacher, teacher of teachers, and passionate advocate for the Classical Pilates method.
A classically trained dancer in both ballet and Cunningham technique, Penelope earned her Master of Fine Arts in Dance Performance from the University of Arizona before beginning her Pilates training in the mid-1990s at Drago’s under the direct tutelage of Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’ protégé.
Following her intensive, independent study with Romana, Penelope became Director and Lead Instructor at The Pilates Studio at Atlanta Ballet, one of The Pilates Studio original teacher certification centers. During her tenure, she had the privilege of working side by side with Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia for all of the teacher certification seminars. These formative years shaped her enduring belief in the transformative power of the Pilates method as well as the importance of rigorous, hands-on mentoring to develop exceptional classical instructors.
Throughout her career, Penelope has founded and led several respected Pilates programs and studios. She established Body Central in Atlanta, directed the Pilates program at Urban Body Studios in Atlanta, founded Pure Pilates in Asheville, North Carolina, and is currently a partner at Pilates at the Core in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
Known for her physically demanding and challenging teaching style, Penelope specializes in training athletes and mentoring Pilates instructors. Her approach combines precision, authenticity, and individualized guidance, inspiring clients and teachers alike to develop strength, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the Classical Pilates method.
