Atwill Pilates
Atwill Pilates is Santa Barbara's Classical Pilates studio — founded by Colleen Ferguson, a Romana's Pilates International certified instructor .
Colleen built the studio around a simple conviction: that the original method, taught faithfully and applied personally, produces results nothing else can replicate.
The studio's instructor roster reflects that conviction. Monica Wilson — great-niece of Romana Kryzanowska and a Romana's Pilates Teacher Trainer since 2004 — teaches and leads the studio's Romana's Pilates International certification program at Atwill. Several other instructors bring decades of professional experience in dance, athletics, and rehabilitation. Every instructor has completed the full classical certification. Every session is tailored to the individual.
Atwill is fully equipped with the complete Gratz line — Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Electric Chair, Barrels, Pedi Pole, and accessories — finished throughout in classic black upholstery. The apparatus is not incidental to the work at Atwill; it is central to it. For clients and visiting instructors, the studio offers the opportunity to move through the complete system on the equipment for which it was designed, exploring the relationships between exercises and apparatus that make Classical Pilates a coherent, interconnected whole.
Atwill offers private sessions, duets, trios, and small group reformer classes, as well as an ongoing Romana's Pilates International instructor training program for those looking to pursue or deepen their classical certification.
Located in downtown Santa Barbara, Atwill is a working classical studio and a destination for practitioners and instructors seeking the method in its complete form — on original Gratz apparatus, taught by people who have dedicated their lives to understanding it.

Why Gratz?
“Before discovering Gratz, I had trained on other equipment, but the difference was undeniable once I made the transition. My body began to change more quickly, and the movement simply felt better—smoother, more connected, almost like upgrading to a luxury car. The unique spring tension challenged me in new ways and had me hooked right away. And beyond function, I’ve always loved beautiful design—Gratz equipment is, in my opinion, the most exquisitely built in the Pilates world.”
